![]() ![]() Determining and Understanding Changes in Sea Level Over the Last Century in the Australian RegionSupervisors John Hunter, John Church Project Outline Global average sea level rose 10-20 cm over the past century and could rise as much as 80 cm during the present century, due primarily to global warming (the "greenhouse effect"). While we are quite confident about the historic rate of rise of global sea level, we know little about the regional variation of that rise, especially in the Southern Hemisphere where there is a dearth of observational data. It is, however, important that we understand what happened in the last century if we are to predict what will happen during the present century. The project would seek to both quantify and understand some aspects of historic sea level rise in the Australian Region and more broadly around the world. Contact John Hunter or tel +61 3 6226 7849 |
