Climate Science for Australia's Future

Our Board

CE is an unincorporated joint-venture comprising 23 Participants and is governed by a Governing Board. The Board comprises an independent chairperson, a representative from each Essential Participant, two representatives from Other Participants and two persons independent of the Participants. The CEO and an additional representative from AAD are ex-officio members, but have no voting rights.

Dr Katherine Woodthorpe

Katherine Woodthorpe (Chairperson)

Ms Woodthorpe is a management adviser and professional director, specialising in innovation and commercialisation. During 2007 she was appoint Chief Executive of AVCAL.

 

 

Dr Tony Press CEODr Tony Press (CEO – ex-officio member)

Dr Press has been CEO of ACE since January 2009. Prior to his appointment as CEO of ACE, Tony was director of the Australian Antarctic Division from 1998 to 2009. Dr Press has been a board member of the ACE CRC since its inception and board member of 2 other CRCs. AS CEO, he is currently an ex-officio member of the ACE board.

 

Uli Bathmann

Ulrich Bathmann (appointee of Alfred-Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research)

Professor Dr Uli Bathmann is section head of biological oceanography within AWI and head of AWI bioscience research division. He is a member of the directorial board of AWI;

 

Tony ColemanTony Coleman (independent)

Mr Coleman is a director of Lonergan Edwards & Associates Ltd with extensive experience in senior roles in the insurance, investment and finance sectors.

 

John GunnJohn Gunn (Australian Antarctic Division – ex-officio)

Mr Gunn is Chief Scientist with the Australian Antarctic Division, having previously served as Deputy Chief, CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research.  He is an ex-officio member of the ACE Board.

 

Greg JohannesGreg Johannes (representative of Other Participants)

Mr Johannes is Deputy Secretary (policy) Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet. He brings substantive board experience from both the research and community sectors.

 


Tony FlemingTony Fleming (appointee of Australian Antarctic Division)

Dr Tony Fleming is Director of the Australian Government’s Antarctic Division, with responsibility for Australia's Antarctic program. Previously he was the National Operations Manager for the Australian Wildlife Conservancy. He is a former Director of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. Tony led the development of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act for the Federal Environment Department.

 

 

Dr Bruce MapstoneBruce Mapstone (appointee of CSIRO)

Dr Bruce Mapstone is Chief of CSIRO’s Division of Marine and Atmospheric Research. His previous positions include Director of the Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research (CAWCR) and CEO of the ACE.

 

 

Rob MurdochRobert Murdoch (appointee of NIWA)

Dr Robert Murdoch has extensive senior executive experience in a government owned research organisation and is currently a General Manager at NIWA. He is also Deputy Chair of the WWF NZ Board.

 

 

Paddy NixonPatrick Nixon (appointee of University of Tasmania)

Professor Paddy Nixon recently took up the post of Pro Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Tasmania. Prior to taking up the position he was University College Dublin’s first Science Foundation Ireland Research Professor.

 

 

John PittJohn Pitt (representative of Other Participants)

Mr Pitt is the Managing Director of pitt&sherry, a leading Australian professional services company. John is focused on the company’s operations in land transport, industrial and community infrastructure sectors and on mitigation and adaptation challenges associated with climate change.

 

Harinda SidhuHarinda Sidhu

Ms Sidhu is the First Assistant Secretary, Adaptation, Science and Communications Division of the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency.  She is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic approach to climate change adaptation issues and coordinating climate change science activities.  In this role, she is also responsible for delivery of Department-wide communications and public affairs activities.
